What to do at Streets Alive!

Walk, bike, roll, dance, play, and hang out with neighbors and friends. Enjoy all the new found space when streets are closed to cars and open to people. Spontaneous and unscheduled activity is encouraged, from lemonade stands, yard sales, to four-square games. Simply claim a space and remember to leave at least half the street for people to easily walk, bike or roll past. Or join in the activities indicated on the map.

Street Closures

On the day of a Streets Alive! Ithaca event, parking is not allowed on the closed streets from 12-5 PM on the event day to minimize danger to people who are expecting no cars along the route. Any cars remaining on the event route are subject to tow. Parking is available on nearby streets, and we warmly invite you to participate in Streets Alive! Ithaca.

During the fall Streets Alive!, Plain Street is closed south of Green Street to Elmira Road, Clinton Street is closed east of Corn Street to Albany Street, and S. Titus Street is closed from Plain Street to Fair Street. Vehicles are not allowed to cross anywhere along this route. Vehicles are not allowed to cross anywhere along this route.

Exception for Residents Along Route

Motor vehicles will not be able to cross the route at any time during the event, except for residents that must drive their cars to or from a nearby off-street driveway that’s only accessible from the route, or to let people with special needs off a vehicle at their destination.

If you are able to, we highly encourage residents and visitors to park on a side street and walk to your final destination along the route. If that is not possible, drive to the nearest cross street to your destination and alert a trained Streets Alive! Intersection Volunteer to guide you to your destination along the route. This exception cannot be used just to get across the route; the Intersection Volunteer will inform you of the appropriate detour.
