2018 Lime Trip Data ANalysis Report

Bike Walk Tompkins collaborates with the City of Ithaca in the oversight of bikeshare in Ithaca. Learn how people in Tompkins County used the Lime system in 2018 in our report based on detailed trip data provided by Lime. The trip data used contains no user data.

Bike Walk Tompkins will use findings from the report to inform our Blueprint for Better Bicycling, an upcoming plan to improve bicycling for all in and around Ithaca.

Ridership

Based on data provided by Lime, Bike Walk Tompkins’ best estimate for the total number of bona fide trips in Tompkins County in 2018 is 77,606.
  • The median (average) trip duration for is 10 minutes, mode trip duration is 5 minutes.

    • In the fall and winter, the median duration for pedal bikes was 9 minutes, and for Lime-E bikes it was 7 minutes.

  • Most popular time to ride is 5 PM, and the 4-8 PM Peak Hour accounts for 31% of all trips.

  • Most trips happened within the City of Ithaca (73,373 starts and 72,785 ends).

  • Hot spots where people ended their trips were transit stations, libraries, grocery stores, parks, and shopping areas.

By grouping where trips started and ended by neighborhood, we get a sense of how people moved in Ithaca using Lime pedal and e-bikes in 2018.
